She Opened the Door For Me
Being 35 weeks pregnant with my second child, my belly was HUGE. I slowly waddled out of Trader Joe’s with a BIG, heavy, overstuffed bag of groceries while carrying my whiny and hangry toddler. I was hangry too. And tired. A sympathetic older woman opened the door for me with a knowing look “I’ve been there too.” At the moment ll I could muster was a small desperate smile. As I walked away I remembered that I happened to have a token in my purse but I really wanted to just pack up my kid and head home. But luckily as I was buckling in my daughter, she was getting into her car right next to mine! So I quickly grabbed the token and handed it to her. Thank you, stranger for letting me walk quickly through the door so that I avoided having to fight my toddler while juggling the groceries!
Thanks for the smile
I was having a bad day. I just felt grumpy all day. I went to a small cafe to get a sandwich and a latte. I really just wanted to get my food and be grumpy by myself for the rest of the day. The young man that handed me my bag of food had such a genuine and innocent smile with his cheery “Have a great day!” that it caught me off guard and made me smile. I dug into my pocket for the token I’ve been carrying and handed it to him along with a dollar bill. He looked a bit curious and confused at first but gave me another smile as I walked away.
Forgot My Lunch Money
I had just started a contract position a few weeks earlier and I forgot my wallet at home. I happened to have a few dollars in quarters on me but otherwise ZERO. I didn’t even have my credit card because I forgot my entire wallet. I was thinking about just skipping lunch but the thought just made me hungrier. So I sucked it up and asked one of my new coworkers if I could borrow a few bucks. Luckily she didn’t make a big deal out of it and said “here, take $10. Pay me back whenever.” Needless to say I returned the money the very next day with a token!
